Newton Public Schools (MA) are combining the strengths of multiple digital tools to deliver a highly functional learning platform through a single “pane of glass”. By using the power of interoperability, the district has successfully integrated the SAFARI Montage Learning Object Repository with the Schoology LMS to connect the district’ssmart learning objects with their platform for designing and delivering digital lessons. This integrated solution blends two best-of-breed platforms to provide teachers with a toolkitof features from lesson delivery through evaluative assessment. Newton Public Schools are now working towards leveraging this interoperable infrastructure to add important metadata to their learning objects and itemized assessments in order to capture the learning analytics needed to help teachers deliver flexible personalized instruction. In conjunction with the Highlander Institute of Rhode Island, the district is developing a model for integratingthe power of numerous tools to truly personalize the educational experience.
